COLOUR: A MINI BEDROOM FACELIFT WITH THE HELP OF ANTHROPOLOGIE
GREY DECOR IS LOVELY BUT CAN LOOK SERIOUSLY BLAND
It's been a couple of years since we hung my own wallpaper design on the walls of the bedroom. It's a pretty trellis pattern I designed ages ago and we wallpapered it into panels so that the pattern wouldn't be over-bearing. It has served as a lovely neutral backdrop to the room and until now I've mainly kept it super simple with white or grey bed linen, grey curtains and white floors - as you can see above it's quite dull and bland.
A ZIP OF COLOUR IS NEEDED
I have loved the white and grey colour scheme but this room my friends is on the hit list for a bit of re-decoration so whilst I plan and prepare for more of a radical transformation next year (and hopefully a new snazzy wallpaper design) I thought I would just add a temporary zip of colour and brighten up the space for the summer!
SO TO GREY WITH POPS OF ZINGY YELLOW
Light grey is pretty easy to work colour into (check out more colours that work with grey decor here) with soft accessories and bed linen. I deliberated between adding in just one accent colour like pink, navy blue or yellow to keep it simple but in the end, I kind of popped it all in with yellow taking a bit more centre stage.
My lovely Instagram followers seemed to favour the grey and yellow colour combo, as well as the lovely interior designer Sophie Robinson who I showed my wallpapers to when I went along to her brilliant Interior Design Masterclass earlier in the year! I have chosen quite a zingy yellow cushion (I tried mustard and it didn't work) and I love how the yellow pops against the grey with that hint of navy fringe detail matching up to the navy in the wallpaper motif.
ANTHROPOLOGIE SAVED THE DAY
The wonderful yellow cushion and bed throw/rug from Anthropologie is all it took to really lift the space and I've enjoyed playing with a bit of pattern clashing detail too. I wanted to add in links to these beautiful accessories for you but since I took delivery of them they have sold out (popular as ever). There are though lots more gorgeous pattern rich and colour popping homewares now in the sale at Anthropologie (bonus) so take a look HERE for the current collections. Anthropologie is always number one on my list if I need some colourful, bold and quirky home accessories. The stripe bedlinen is from Ikea which is a lovely dark grey colour.
A HOME CRAFTED PATTERNED LAMPSHADE
I also went a little mad and decided to buy a plain white lamp shade from IKEA and painted a quirky print on it using my trusty Little Greene tester pots. I think it looks kind of cute... though I need to create a slightly neater version.
The throw/rug from Anthropologie is beautiful quality, it's heavy enough for a rug but light enough to be used as a bed throw too so I'll change it up and use it on both the floor and bed. I love the little accents of yellow, navy and of course pink (it had to be in there somewhere).
ADDING A GOLD ACCENT
This sweet little leaf tray also from Anthropologie is so special - I love a glint of gold in any room and anything gold or brass works so well with grey.
THE FULL COLOUR PALETTE
The yellows, navy and pinks all work really well with light grey and even a dark grey - here is a handy colour scheme guide if you like this colour palette.
So there it is - a short and snappy room facelift. What do you think? Have you got a light grey bedroom or living room you're thinking of adding colour to?
Thank you to Anthropologie for helping me with this mini colour project!
